One Earth Natural Food Store is an independently owned business located in the historic area that was once Emery Mills, Maine. Diane and Alissa Laitres, a mother-daughter duo opened One Earth in 2005 in a small, rented space a quarter mile from the store’s current location. It was very well-received by the community and they quickly outgrew that small building! In 2007, the Laitres’ purchased property at 191 Emery Mills Road in Shapleigh and occupied the existing retail space while they renovated the old barn into the beautifully inviting space that you shop in today.

Long-time employee Jennifer Daye had a dream of owning a health food store some day, so when she got the news that the Laitres’ were ready to move on, she pursued the opportunity. Diane and Alissa had always envisioned an employee taking over their legacy and they were so happy that it was going to be Jennifer.  In the Fall of 2021, the sale was finalized and Jennifer became the new Owner of One Earth Natural Food Store, The Studio at One Earth, as well as the commercial property that The Brew Shoppe, and Treat Yourself Massage businesses occupy.

It was a bumpy transition due to the residual effects of the global pandemic, but the dust has settled and Jennifer is enjoying her new business adventure. Diane has stayed on during the transition and continues to support Jennifer in her new role as Owner, although Diane has greatly reduced her hours and is enjoying her part-time retirement! Alissa continues to offer support behind the scenes, but has followed her passion of working with dogs full time and has moved on to a new career as a Pet Stylist and Master Pet Aesthetician, with a holistic approach of course! It has been business as usual at One Earth; Jennifer continues to honor the business’ core values and remains open-minded and motivated by the needs of the community. Customers can still expect to see their favorite products on the shelf and enjoy shopping in the friendly vibe in which they have grown accustomed to.
